How we metHow we met

Her version: It all started over 15 years ago in the cat dissection lab. Hardly the most romantic setting, but it’s where we first met. We didn’t keep in touch back then, but that conversation stuck with both of us all these years. Fate brought us back together in nursing school. Cesar was in my sister’s cohort, and when I joined, we reconnected. After Valentine’s Day, we started spending more time together, and by St. Patrick’s Day, we were officially a couple. What started in a science lab years ago turned into something we never could have imagined, and now we can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with you. His version: It was in 2010, we were both taking Anatomy that term but not in the same class. I had gone to practice the cat dissecting part by myself after my groupmates had flaked out on me. There was where I met Cindy and a few of her friends. That conversation was interesting because, looking back at it, it was very inappropriate. We met there once or twice, not by choice but by accident. And that was it. It wouldn't be another few years before her sister and I were in class together. One day after class, a few of us were doing a group activity and Janet happened to be there. She came up to me and said, "my sister knows you and said you are smart. That I should study with you. Do you want to study together?" I had no idea who her sister was, but I know I was desperate for a study partner so I agreed. After talking to Janet a long time about her "sister" I started vaguely remembering. It's not until I met her for the second time that it all came back to me, how I stereotyped them based on their gender, their boyfriends, and on what kind of car they drove and if they were good drivers or not. Since that day, she and I have been (almost) inseperable. We spent all of nursing school together, she would come pick me up after work so we could study at Starbucks together until closing time and then spend a little bit more time together either at Denny's or inside of Walmart. Those days we didn't have much money, but we knew we had found something special within each other. My most memorable moment of that time period would be one night I was rummaging through her car after one of our late night study sessions and found her pepper spray. Instinctively, and without thinking, as the windows were rolled up I said, "we should spray this inside the car and see what happens." Cindy busted out laughing so hard she could not breathe, it was then that I knew I wanted to be with her. It was a stupid, silly moment but one that I often look back at and makes me smile. I knew I found someone that I can be myself with and say just about anything and the first reaction I will get will be laughter. I love making her laugh. It's infectious. I love it.
