We first met in high school, where we had a few classes together. At the time, we were just classmates, never really friends, but we stayed connected through social media for about 10 years. In 2022, I received a “Happy New Year” message from Marc, which I replied to. After a few conversations, he asked me out on a date. A month later, on February 13th, we went to the movies and then had dinner. We immediately felt a spark, and after a few more dates, we made our relationship official.

About a week before the big day, Marc wrote a letter to my parents (translated into Spanish), expressing his love for me and asking for their blessing in marriage. My parents of course agreed and soon everyone—except me—knew what was about to happen. On Sunday November 12th, we had plans to visit the cemetery to honor Marc’s late mother on her birthday. We brought flowers and shared a cupcake in her memory. What I didn’t realize was that while we were away, both of our families had gathered to prepare the most beautiful surprise. When we arrived back home, Marc led me to the backyard. As I opened the door, “All of Me” by John Legend began to play. There, in front of me, were all our loved ones. Rose petals were scattered across the ground, a beautiful bouquet of flowers was waiting for me, and right in the center stood a sign that read: “Will You Marry Me?” I instantly burst into tears. Everything was perfect—and in that unforgettable moment, we became engaged.
