We first crossed paths in Japan back in 2016. Spencer had a week off from the Asian Tour and decided to spend it practicing in Japan. I was starting my pro career and just gained access to a country club in Kanagawa. The owner of the course mentioned that a guy from Hawaii was coming and suggested that I practice with him. The course was in the middle of nowhere, and I thought it was pretty random that someone from Hawaii had a connection there as well. Our first interaction happened when we hopped in the golf cart to head to the first tee box. The carts are automatic and run on a track so when I had sat down in the passenger seat, Spencer asked who was driving the cart? I sarcastically answered and said, "uhhhh it drives on its own...." assuming he knew how these carts worked. (He did not) oops! A few more snarky comments were made, and Spencer was not impressed. We ended up golfing together every day for a week. I’d use Spencer for free rides to the course, and he’d use me for my sponsorship perks to pay for tolls. After losing to me daily, we went out for dinner and drinks. Spencer was totally swept off his feet during our karaoke night out. But after that week, we didn’t speak a word to each other. Fast forward to 2019, I came back home from Japan and started hanging out with friends. Spencer just so happened to always be around but never made himself noticeable. After a few nudges from friends, he started texting more frequent and would invite me to golf with him. One day after a round of golf, hiking up Makapu'u and lunch, Spencer dropped me off at home and surprised me with a quick kiss goodbye. Although our teeth bumped and it was a bit awkward, I was in complete shock and thought, "wow he actually has game!" We officially started dating a few weeks later, right before COVID hit. Five years and 2 cats later, here we are ready to make this permanent!
