Flight
San Jose del Cabo Airport (SJD) is the best airport to fly into and is approximately 1 hour from Cerritos Beach. Another option is Internacional Manuel MÔrquez de León Airport in La Paz, which is approximately ~1 hora 30 minutes from Cerritos Beach.
Rental Car
Getting Around š We recommend renting a car, as Cerritos Beach is about an hour from the airport. While there are some shops and restaurants nearby, the area isnāt very walkable. Having a car makes it much easier (and more comfortable) to explore and get around. Most major companies in Cabo allow you to reserve online and pay at pickup, and the price shown should match what you pay. If your credit card includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) coverage, you can decline the rental companyās version at the counter to avoid extra fees. (It may feel odd, but this is the standard approach many travelers ā and even longtime residents ā recommend.) Hereās a helpful script you can use at pickup: āHi, thank you. I understand that Third-Party Liability is required, and Iām fine with the basic coverage thatās already included in the rate. I already have coverage for damage to the rental car through my credit card, so I donāt need to purchase your Collision Damage Waiver. Please do not add any additional insurance or roadside assistance to my rental unless I specifically request it.ā Key takeaways for Mexico rentals: Third-Party Liability (TPL) ā Mandatory. The legal minimum is almost always included in your base rate. CDW/LDW (Collision/Loss Damage Waiver) ā Not required by law. You can use your credit cardās coverage instead, but without either, youād be responsible for the carās full value. SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance) ā Optional extra coverage for bigger accidents. Many travelers purchase it for added peace of mind. Some rental companies with better reputations at SJD Airport include: Avis Ā· Alamo Ā· Enterprise Ā· Cactus Rent a Car Ā· BBB Rent a Car
Travel Note
š If you do not wish to rent a car, there are many shuttle companies that do trips between the Cabo Airport (in San Jose) and Cerritos Beach. Uber is also available and a good option. Below is a link to a transportation company based in Todos Santos (15 mins from Cerritos Beach) that can shuttle groups of up to 7 people in an SUV or up to 10 people in a van. The cost is approximately $200 one way and they also do local rides around Cerritos / Todos Santos for $25 one way. As mentioned, there are also many other options if you would like to look into your own options! If you are interested in a personal driver, we have the contact information for an English-speaking local Mexican couple we used to use when we lived in Cabo. Their rates are usually similar to Uber, and you can schedule with them ahead of time and have access to message them, etc. Please reach out if youād like their contact info.

A note for booking at this hotel: not all rooms have A/C, so if you would like to be sure to have air conditioning in your room (the highs may be near 90 degrees in October), be sure to look for A/C in the name of the room type you are booking. This hotel offers a book now and pay later option, with a cancellation policy of 21 days before the date. If you think you may want to stay there, we encourage you to book it sooner than later since they also do not have a lot of rooms. We're here to answer any other questions!

š”ļøAnd one more important thing to plan for: we highly recommend looking into travel insurance to cover the unexpected ā things like flight delays, cancellations, and most importantly, medical issues. Weāve personally experienced how valuable it can be, and it offers peace of mind, at the very least. A couple of recommended options to explore: Seven Corners (I have personally used this one while traveling) Travel Guard by AIG (we have not used this but it came up as a suggested one) Itās also a good idea to check whether your regular U.S. health insurance covers emergencies abroad, as some do, but many plans have limited or no coverage outside the country.
