How We Met

Facebook Introductions and Long Distance Calls

A while ago, Misha’s close friend returned from yet another volunteer experience, one of many spaces dominated by men. With a mix of humor and hope, Misha asked him why he wasn’t also on the lookout for her next man. Laughing, he replied, “I never thought about it.” That was all the encouragement Misha needed. She jumped on Facebook and pointed out the very first person he should reach out to: Curtis. Her friend immediately noticed the alignment: both were educators, deeply rooted in their faith, and actively involved in church. Misha’s response was clear and confident: Make the connection. With a friendly disclaimer that he wasn’t responsible if it didn’t work out, her friend shared Misha’s name and number with Curtis. When Curtis received the number, curiosity got the best of him and he looked Misha up on Facebook. What he saw stopped him in his tracks. "Is this a real person?", he wondered. Who takes pictures reading to kids in real life?! But it didn’t take long for him to realize that those images weren’t for show, they were simply Misha being Misha. As he kept scrolling, he saw more of her passions come to life. Curtis called her that same day, on his birthday, explaining he was out to dinner with his family but promising to call the next day. True to his word, he did. What started as a simple introduction soon blossomed into a long-distance friendship marked by meaningful conversations, laughter, and genuine intention. From there, the rest is history.
