Postponement

We are working on rescheduling the wedding after being delayed by COVID-19. We will update our date as soon as we know it. :)

Thank You

Our parents have been a big part of our story - helping us survive childhood, those awkward teenage years, becoming adults, and now planning a wedding and our new life together. Thank you David and Debra Smale and Christina and Donald McCoy for helping us become the people that we are today. Much love to our families! Brianna and Curtis

How We Met

Bumble. You know... the app. It's the 21st century. Meeting in person is just so passé. :)

Our Engagement Story, Part I

So... we both knew this was coming but didn't know exactly when. We had planned a week long trip to Acadia National Park in Maine, which was too perfect of a spot to pass up proposing during. Now, before we go into how we actually got engaged, let's talk about how all plans and attempts to propose were foiled by both the weather and Brianna! Originally wanting to propose on our first day in Acadia with a beautiful backdrop of the park at some beautiful location, of course it had to rain for our first two days in the park. Okay, slight setback, but just do it on day three. We had planned a full day of hiking up Cadillac Mountain (the highest peak in Acadia), I had the ring hidden in a ring bag in my pocket so she wouldn't notice the outline of a box in my pocket, and I was all set. About five minutes into the hike we were at a perfect overlook where you could see the mountain and the coast of Maine. We stopped, I got down on one knee behind Brianna, and... she walks off continuing on the trail without looking back. I realize she's not going to turn around, get up and quicken my pace to catch up to her. Several times later in the hike, we had more perfect views of Acadia, and I kept trying to get her to turn around in attempts to take her picture with the beautiful scenery, and she would never turn around. We get to the top... no problem, I can do this on our hike down the mountain, except we come to find out, the hike down the mountain is extremely technical down a ravine with no good places to propose. Looks like this isn't happening today...

Our Engagement Story, Part II

After the previous day of failed attempts at proposing, I knew today had to be the day, rain or shine. I managed to nudge Brianna into hiking this trail I really wanted to see because of "geology stuff" on it. She agreed and we headed off from Jordan Pond to hike the South Bubble Trail, which overlooks Jordan Pond, surrounded on either side by other mountains with the coast beyond them -- the perfect scenery for this moment. We started with some pretty views along the east side of the pond and worked our way up the North side of the South Bubble. We got to the top and low and behold... Families and people galore. I knew Brianna didn't want this to be a spectacle, but just our special moment, so I kept us moving around the top of the mountain, trying to find a spot where it could just be the two of us. I convinced her to finally head down the south trail a bit where there were fewer people to "see if we could go down the mountain that way." We found a secluded little spot on a rock face with a perfect view. Brianna immediately sat down to have lunch, and I just kept hoping no one else would show up. After lunch we stood up, and she walked toward the edge of the mountain to take in the view of everything. This was FINALLY the perfect moment! I took out the ring, got down on one knee behind her (hoping she would come back from the edge a little because I was truly afraid the excitement would make her lose her balance and fall off the cliff), and waited for what seemed like an eternity for her to turn around. When she finally did, she got the biggest grin on her face and I said, "Brianna Leigh Smale, will you marry me?" At this point, I think I may have blacked out from nervousness, but she swears she jumped up and down saying "YES, YES! OF COURSE YES!" and jammed the ring on in excitement and fear of losing it off the cliff. We then spent a while trying not to cry and enjoying the perfect view with each other on this perfect day.

For all the days along the way
