We met through mutual friends, but our story really started during a three-day snowstorm. DJ texted me out of the blue asking if I wanted to tag along to Lowe’s and Home Depot — and I agreed to join him. What started as a simple errand turned into hours of laughter, goofing off, and feeling like we’d known each other forever. From pointing out dream refrigerators to flicking every light switch in sight in the lighting aisle, we were instantly comfortable — and it just clicked. Afterward, we went to El Patrón for dinner, and by the end of that meal, I knew something real had begun. Since that snowy day, we’ve shared countless laughs, adventures, and late-night talks — but also faced some of life’s hardest moments side by side. Just a few months into dating, I lost my sweet dog Momo to cancer. Not long after, DJ lost his grandmother, and in 2023 we said goodbye to his beloved beagle, Mason. Those heartbreaks brought us even closer and showed us the kind of love that stands strong through both joy and loss. Every season since has been a reminder that no matter what life brings, we have each other and we are each others biggest cheerleader — and that’s what makes our story so special. 🤍
I had given DJ a whole checklist of how I wanted our proposal to go — nails done, cute outfit, makeup perfect, all the little details. But DJ had other plans. He really wanted it to be a surprise, and he knew that if he started asking about nail appointments or suggested dressing up, my spidey senses would’ve gone off instantly. So, he picked a completely random day. He had one of his friends bring over his restored John Deere tractor and set it up at his buddy’s shop. Then he called me and said, “When you get a chance, I need you to stop by and help me with this trailer.” Honestly, that wasn’t unusual — I’m often his backup helper when his dad is down in SC. So I didn’t think twice about it. I told him I’d take the dogs for a walk first, then come by. When I showed up, I was in leggings, an old t-shirt covered in dog hair, no makeup, messy hair, and definitely no manicure — the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted. But when I walked in, there it was — the tractor all decorated with flowers and a sweet sign he made himself. It was beautiful, thoughtful, and so him. I was completely shocked and utterly speechless. In that perfectly imperfect moment, surrounded by love, DJ asked me to be his forever — and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. 🤍
