The universe gave us hundreds of opportunities to meet before we actually did. We were both students at CSB/SJU, Lauren studying biochemistry, me political science. Somehow our paths never crossed -- I often wonder how many times we passed each other on our way to class, cheered on friends at the same sporting event, or ate a meal at an adjacent table without realizing it. No matter the case, two years went by without us knowing each other's name or face. When junior year arrived, Lauren hopped on a plane to Athens and I packed my bags for Ireland, each for semesters abroad. I jumped at the opportunity to visit friends (hi Emma, hi Alaina!) in Greece over my mid-semester break, who I gladly tagged along with on a weekend excursion to Santorini. On the way, they introduced me to the bubbliest, kindest, smartest woman on earth. I spent the remainder of the trip getting to know Lauren between drinks, a catamaran ride, and a long ferry journey back to Athens. As wonderful as Ireland was, I found myself increasingly excited for the semester to end. Not because it meant going home, but because I had plans to spend a few days in Rome first - conveniently, with the same people I stayed with in Greece. Needless to say, they didn't see much of me. Lauren and I were too busy staying up until 3:00am talking, going on our first date (to the Vatican), eating gelato, and enjoying sunset dinners in the heart of Rome. The rest is history, as they say. We graduated together, endured the hell of long-distance and COVID, moved to Madison, Wisconsin, and began our career/PhD program. We are each other's best friend, confidant, cheerleader, teammate, motivator, and guide, and could not be more excited to commit to a lifetime together. To our families and friends, thank you. The love and support you show us formed the foundation for the love we show each other. We are SO excited to celebrate with you. See you on the dance floor!
