It was a modern day meet-cute…kind of. In true dating app fashion they both thought the other was cute enough to swipe right. Once messaging, their banter was thick to say the least. Brandon had met his match; literally. He suggested they meet in person for a drink as Kelly was leaving town for a month in a few days. For reasons we won’t discuss here, that drink did not happen. Thank goodness. What did happen was that Kelly went back to her mother state, Texas, and they both assumed/expected the ships that happened to pass in the night would inevitably keep sailing away as they had every time before. Wrong. If you know Brandon, you know he loves with all his heart, but maintaining a long distance relationship is not his strength (to say the least). Like a puppy, it doesn’t take much to distract him. For the first week or two a message from Kelly would pop up and he would engage for a few minutes until one of them got too busy to respond. Within a few weeks they were texting all day every day. Investing time in someone they hadn’t met. Smiling at their phones to the point that friends and family would ask who they were talking to. The time finally came for Kelly to leave the proud state of Texas and drive back to Nashville. Having spent so much time talking to each other over the course of that month or so, they began to acknowledge how unfortunate it would be if upon meeting it turned out that this digital chemistry didn’t quite translate to the “real world”. Don’t fret, they had a plan. Kelly and Brandon will both tell you it was their idea, but regardless of credit, they agreed to go on a minimum of THREE dates and at least give a proper chance to the prior month not being a waste of both of their time. Their first date was at Brandon’s favorite restaurant in Nashville - City House. The next two were good enough that they continued to see each other weekly - on Thursdays mostly as Kelly filled her nights with pottery, hip hop, and the bachelor. For the following month or two, it became quite evident that Brandon was (unsurprisingly) a good bit more into Kelly than she was into him. A day trip to Chattanooga aquarium, carving pumpkins on Kelly’s back porch, and fire pit nights in at Brandon’s slowly started to pierce her armor. They were quarantined together twice during COVID - Kelly was annoyed; Brandon was THRILLED. In December, they took a trip to hike in the Smokey’s and then spent a few days in Asheville. Sitting on the back porch of The Grove Park Inn watching the sun set over the mountains. That was it. There’s a picture and you can see it on Kelly’s face - she finally laid down her shield and gave into loving him. When did Brandon fall in love, you ask? Brandon didn’t need three dates; he had been in love since City House.
Coming soon :)
