Please RSVP no later than September 1, 2021.
Typically before the wedding, the ceremony of Mayian, Sangeet (Night of Singing) and mehndi is performed at the bride's home. Guests sing traditional songs, dance and eat. It is a ceremony filled with joy, dancing, and food. Mehndi (henna)—is an ancient form of body art, originating in India. This is the pre-wedding celebration in Sikh culture when the bride has the red-orange mehndi "stain" applied to her palms, back of hands, and feet. The darker the mehndi, the happier the marriage!
Please arrive no later than 9:00am to see the arrival of the baraat (groom and his family)! Please plan ahead for Friday morning traffic.
The ceremony will begin at 4:30pm sharp. Please allow time to arrive and take your seats.
For the Sangeet on Thursday, guests can wear traditional Indian attire or cocktail attire. Regardless of what you choose to wear, bright colors are encouraged. The Sangeet is festive and you can wear any color you wish and it does not have to be modest! So dress to party! For the Sikh Wedding on Friday, everyone is expected to cover their heads with a scarf before entering the Gurdwara. We will provide small scarves for people to cover their heads, called a ramal. Men can wear a suit and tie or a traditional Indian suit/attire. Women can wear a modest dress (minimal shoulders and cleavage) or traditional Punjabi attire called salwar kameez (also called suit). Please refrain from wearing white or black at the Gurdwara. Keep in mind that this ceremony requires everyone to sit on the floor, so please dress comfortably. Additionally, everyone is expected to take off their shoes before entering the Gurdwara. Socks are ok.
For the Wedding Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, the attire is semi-formal. Tuxes & gowns are welcome, however suits, cocktail dresses and formal Indian wedding attire are also great choices.
