Things To Do

Georgia has a bunch of fun things to do in Athens and Atlanta. Whether you're flying in or driving through, here are some cool sights and locations!

Tree That Owns Itself

277 South Finley Street, Athens, GA 30605

According to a legend first printed in the local newspaper on August 12, 1890, Colonel William H. Jackson's will deeded the tree possession of itself and all the land within eight feet of its trunk. Is this deed legally binding? We’re not sure, as no one has ever contested the tree’s property rights.

Georgia Museum of Art

90 Carlton Street, Athens, GA 30602
, (706) 542-4662

Founded in 1945, the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia houses a permanent collection of more than 10,000 works of art as well as 20 to 25 temporary exhibitions a year. The Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden hosts rotating exhibitions of work by women sculptors. Strengths include American painting, works on paper, southern decorative arts and self-taught art, as well as works by African American artists and a Samuel H. Kress Study Collection of Renaissance and Baroque art. The official state museum of art, it offers free inspiration for everyone.

White Tiger Gourmet LLC

217 Hiawassee Avenue, Athens, GA 30601
, (706) 353-6847

We went here for our first date. Needless to say, it was delicious.

Terrapin Beer Co.

265 Newton Bridge Road, Athens, GA 30607
, (706) 549-3377

Enjoy tasting some local beers at this location!

Creature Comforts Downtown Taproom and Brewery

271 West Hancock Avenue, Athens, GA 30601
, (706) 410-1043

One of the Bride's favorite places in Athens. At this time of year, her favorite beer (Koko Buni) isn't on rotation, but they've got other really great seasonal beers. Fun Fact: In the movie Avengers: Endgame, Thor is seen drinking the Tropicalia and the Athena!

University of Georgia

Athens, GA 30602
, (706) 542-3000

We obviously are biased in that this is the best place in Athens (as we are both alumni). Visit North Campus (near Downtown Athens) to see the beautiful buildings, visit the Arch, and ring the Chapel Bell. As the wedding will be on the same day as UGA vs. Vanderbilt (at Vandy), the campus will be pretty empty!

Georgia Aquarium

225 Baker Street Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30313
, (404) 581-4000

For our out-of-state guests, if you're planning on staying a night or two in Atlanta, be sure to check out the largest aquarium in the world! It houses about 500 species in 60 habitats with 12,000 square feet of viewing windows.

World of Coca-Cola

121 Baker Street Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30313
, (404) 676-5151

Another Atlanta classic. The World of Coca-Cola has a tasting room where you can try a bunch of different Coke products and you can see the interesting history of the popular drink.

Athfest

285 West Washington Street, Athens, GA 30601

Athfest usually happens in June, but for 2021, it's happening our reception weekend. Galen and I actually had our second date during AthFest 2015!
