TIPS FOR OUT OF COUNTRY TRAVELLERS: PASSPORTS ARE REQUIRED

Valid Passport: A valid passport is a mandatory requirement for entry into Canada. A valid passport is required whether you are travelling by land or by sea. Please confirm that your passport is current and has not expired. Minimum Passport Validity: To comply with Canadian regulations, your passport must remain valid for the entire duration of your stay. Importantly, it should not expire within six months of your planned departure from Canada. Check Passport Expiry Date: Prior to departure, kindly double-check the expiration date on your passport. If your passport is set to expire within six months of your intended departure from Canada, we strongly recommend renewing it before your trip. This attention to passport details will ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience as you celebrate this special occasion with us.

TIPS FOR OUT OF COUNTRY (ROAD) TRAVELLERS: KILOMETRES VERSUS MILES

Miles is the standard unit of measurement for distance in the USA, while kilometres is the standard unit used in Canada. One mile is longer than one kilometre (1 mile = 1.60km). If you plan on driving to Canada, be mindful of the change from miles to kilometres once you cross the border. We recommend changing your speedometer from Miles Per Hour (MPH) to Kilometres Per Hour (KPH), as well as any navigation apps/systems, prior to crossing the border to avoid complications.

TIPS FOR OUT OF COUNTRY (ROAD) TRAVELLERS: 407 ETR TOLLWAY

The 407 ETR tollway in Ontario is a faster route, but note it comes with a toll fee (charged in CAD) that is sent to the registered license plate owner's address. To calculate what your toll fee may be, use the 407 ETR toll calculator: https://www.407etr.com/en/index.html Avoiding Unexpected Toll Fees To help you avoid any unexpected charges, we recommend toggling your navigation apps such as Google Maps or Waze to avoid tollways while traveling within the province of Ontario. These navigation apps provide alternative routes that not only save you money but also provide a scenic journey to our wedding celebration. We want you to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings without worrying about toll fees awaiting you at home. Your Convenience Matters: Your comfort and convenience matter to us, and we hope this note helps you plan your travel accordingly. If you have any questions or need assistance with alternative routes, feel free to reach out.

TIPS FOR OUT OF COUNTRY TRAVELLERS: TAXI INFORMATION

Note: We recommend that you opt for Uber or Lyft instead of a Taxi. However, if you are more comfortable with a taxi, please be aware of the following. Only use licensed taxi companies. If someone is offering you a ride, do not accept it - no matter how enticing the rate is. All major cabs accept debit, credit, or cash. If you opt to pay by card, PLEASE DO NOT HAND YOUR CARD TO THE DRIVER. While a common practice in America, this is a breeding ground for fraud in Canada. If paying by card, ensure the driver hands you the terminal directly. Insert your card YOURSELF, and complete the transaction without driver intervention. Before leaving the taxi, be sure that you have all your belongings, ESPECIALLY your card(s).

TIPS FOR OUT OF COUNTRY TRAVELLERS: SHOULD I USE CASH OR CARD?

All of Canada uses the Canadian dollar, however certain retailers throughout the country will accept the US dollar as a form of payment for goods. If you opt to carry cash, we highly suggest you to use the local currency to pay for goods and services. It’s important to note that retailers are able to charge their own exchange rate between the Canadian and U.S. dollar, which could lead to an unfavorable price for a U.S. patron. HOWEVER, our top recommendation is that you pay by card (credit card preferably). Aside from being the safest method of payment choice, you'll find that despite foreign transaction fees (unless you have a card that waives these fees), you end up paying far less for goods and services because USD is significantly stronger than CAD.

BILLY BISHOP TORONTO CITY AIRPORT (YTZ)

We are excited to be welcoming guests from across Canada, Europe, the USA, and the Caribbean! For those who are flying in, you have two airport options: Pearson International Airport (YYZ) or Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). YYZ is a major international hub, whereas YTZ is a significantly smaller airport. We have compiled a list of pros and cons for YTZ your consideration. Check out the YYZ section for its own pros and cons list. Pros: Smaller and Less Stressful: The smaller size of YTZ may mean quicker check-in processes and less stress for wedding attendees, allowing for a smoother arrival and departure experience. Cons: Limited International Flights: YTZ has fewer international flight options, so some guests may need to connect through other airports, potentially leading to longer travel times. Limited Terminal Amenities: The smaller size of the airport may mean fewer amenities compared to larger airports (especially lounges), which could impact the overall travel experience. Potential Longer Travel Time to Wedding Location: YTZ is about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from the wedding location. However, you are driving through several cities, which poses a risk of highway traffic (unless you take the 407 ETR - a paid toll road).
