The moment everything changed

Kevin and I both went to school together for years and even hung out at the same places before we actually knew each other. Little did we know that a year after meeting at a bowling alley that things would change forever. Running Into Kevin a few months later he invited a friend and I to his birthday that night to watch Zombieland. At this point we had hung out a little and I already liked him. Kevin was just really quiet so I didn’t know how he felt about me. Making a point to sit next to him during the movie and at dinner I tried to make it known how I felt. The next afternoon, Kevin texted me after getting my number from a friend. We texted nonstop for a couple of months hanging out together and always talking on the phone. Things had started to get kinda serious and at this point Kevin had finally told me he liked me. This was a big deal as I had broken the door on his eclipse and it now made a loud thud every time you opened it. (accidentally of course) We had really become close spending almost all our time together. One day Kevin asked me if I would want to go to the Zoo with him on a date. If you know me you know I am overly obsessed with elephants so I jumped at the idea. My parents had a rule while I was growing up that if you wanted to date you had to take a sibling with you. Telling Kevin this rule he was completely okay with it and so we all went Kevin, Andrea(my little sister) and I. We had an amazing time first the Zoo then dinner and the entire time Kevin being so sweet to me and my little sister. After getting back to my parents house and hanging out for awhile kevin had to leave. While walking him to his car he asked me to cover my eyes because he had a surprise for me. Covering my eyes and laughing Kevin went to get something out of his car. When I opened my eyes Kevin was standing in front of me with a hand drawn picture. It was Dumbo holding a sign saying “will you go out with me?” Smiling I said Yes and that was the moment our adventure began.

The Proposal

November 19 five days after our seven year anniversary. I had been sending Ashley picture clues once a day for the past month about tonight and I was excited to finally share this with her. The entire night had a special theme to it of past, present and future. The first part of the night was Past taking Ashley to see A Christmas Carol at the Alley Theater downtown. Ashley loves anything having to do with Christmas so I knew she was going to love this. Walking in, the big Christmas tree in the center of the theater was perfect and Ashley loved it. After the play ended we went to the Houston Aquarium and as we walked toward the big fountain in front of the building I handed Ashley a silver box and told her this was her present. The second part of my theme for the night. During dinner the box sat on the table and I could tell it was driving Ashley crazy that she didn’t know what was in it. After dinner we walked outside and sat down under a light post by the fountain. Handing her the box she excitedly opened it, Pulling out a notebook. Ashely had given me the notebook a year before to keep at my desk so I could draw when I was bored. Laughing she opened it to the first page and noticed I had filled the book with drawings just for her. All of her favorites and drawings that showed our relationship. We slowly flipped threw the book laughing and commenting on each picture. The closer she got to the back of the book I started to feel anxious of how she was going to react. A couple of pages before the ring had a part of a quote. “There will always be bumps in the road. There will always be tangled messes. But the journey to ones heart is worth the maze.” Turning the last page sat the ring in a small hole surrounded by a drawing of me on one knee with the words “Will you marry me?” Getting down on one knee I asked again. “Will you marry me?” Ashley smiled “YES!” The last part of my theme was finished. The play being the past, the silver box the present and Ashley my FUTURE.
