In 2013, we both moved in to Kistler Living Center at Grand Valley. As two freshmen eager to make new friends, we spent time together playing card games, attending football games and getting cookie sundaes at Late Night (iykyk).
After a year and a half of getting to know each other and realizing we were the perfect match, we decided to make it official and I asked Jen on a cute date to the Bob in Downtown Grand Rapids. We enjoyed great food--well, Jen got a salad because she wasn't quite comfortable enough to get what she reeeeally wanted (pizza)--and shared lots of laughs before posing for quite possibly the most awkward photo we've ever taken (still cute though.) A night we'll never forget!
Lying, sneaking around, and turning off my Find My Friends location doesn't seem like the start of a great engagement story. But if it's to pull off the best proposal for a girl who CAN'T STAND secrets, it was for her own good. After months of saving up to buy the ring she deserved (which is A LOT), I mustered up the courage to pop the question to the girl of my dreams. After hearing Jen wanted to visit Belle Isle for the first time, I thought it would be the perfect setting for our engagement. The day finally came for our "date" and we headed downtown--(that was quite possibly the most stressful drive I have ever and will ever make.) Once we parked, I grabbed a couple coins to make a wish at the fountain. We walked to the edge, counted 3-2-1 and Jen made her wish while I hucked my coin across the fountain, got down on one knee and asked my favorite person in the world to spend the rest of her life with me. She of course said "wait, are you serious?" and then eventually "YES!"
