Rental cars are probably the best way to get around Darwin, however be aware that there is zero tolerance for drink driving and police in the Northern Territory frequently pull people over for random breath tests. Also, remember that you drive on the left in Australia! Uber is relatively new in Darwin, expect longer wait times and higher prices compared to bigger cities. Taxi's etc. are available but can be expensive depending on distance.
