A short 20 minute drive will get you to many places where you can eat, drink, and enjoy the views of the city from the San Salvador Volcano. You can also find the rainbow slide (the biggest in El Salvador) at Picnic Steakhouse.
La Libertad department is home to famous Surf City. One of the best places in the world to surf at just 30 minutes from the city. If you are planning to go down to Surf City we recommend eating/having a drink at Beto's or Cafe Sunzal. If you are looking for a place for drinks and music during the sunset, La Bonita beach club is located at El Tunco beach.
Suchitoto is a town set in the mountains of El Salvador’s Cuscatlán department. Its colonial architecture is highlighted by the mid-1800s Santa Lucia Church, with a wooden altar and beams, that sits on Parque Central. The town overlooks Lago Suchitlán, a large man-made lake with boats and migratory birds.
If you are looking for some outdoor adventures hiking the Santa Ana Volcano is for you! The Santa Ana/Ilamatepec Volcano is the highest and most active volcano in El Salvador. The hike takes approximately 4 hours to complete (roundtrip).
If you have more time on your itinerary we recommend taking a trip to La Union department and camping over at Mirador Espiritu de la Montaña at Volcan Conchagua. From there you will be able to see one of the most amazing views over the Gulf of Fonseca and can then enjoy that white sand beaches down in La Union.
