FAQs

Question

Which airport should I fly into / out of?

Answer

--- Chania airport (CHQ) is ~15 minutes from the villas and is the recommended option. The other airport, Heraklion (HER) is ~2 hour drive from from Chania.

Question

Where in Crete are we staying?

Answer

We are staying in the area called Agios Onoufrios, which is about 15 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the old port town of Chania.

Question

Do I need a rental car?

Answer

--- Short Answer: We'd recommend 1-2 per villa, but depends on your desired level of flexibility. Long Answer: We'd recommend each villa have 1 rental car per 4 people just in case (so ~1-2 cars per villa). While there will be taxis and public busses that will work great for local area travel, rideshare apps are not currently available in Crete. For the choose your own adventure day on Sunday, if you want to explore further cities, beaches etc. other than Chania town, we'd highly recommend a car, at least for that day. **NOTE: I am going to get special rates on rental cars from the people operating the villas. If you want to rent a car, feel free to ping me before booking and I'm happy to inquire for you on pricing through them before you book!**

Question

When will I know more details about lodging?

Answer

We plan to email everyone lodging details by April 1st at the latest as we finalize all arrangements. You will also hear from us (likely individually) about housemates / room situations sooner.

Question

What is the itinerary / what should I plan to attend?

Answer

See the schedule tab for more details. Aside from the beach/boat day on Friday + White Party on Saturday, don't feel any pressure to join for other group meals / gatherings if you want to make other plans to explore. While we want to spend as much time with people as possible during the weekend, we also want you all to enjoy the trip however you want outside of the main events!

Question

What costs should I plan for during the trip?

Answer

Plan for costs of rental cars, taxis, activities on your own time and meals/food outside of larger pre-planned events. For any meals/drinks, activities on your own, prices are incredibly reasonable especially compared to US prices. Example costs: - For individual meals, you can expect to pay no more than 10-25eur for Breakfast and 15-50eur for Lunch/Dinner per person (even at the nicest places). - Taxis to town - expect these to be no more than 20-30eur total (5-10eur per person) to and from town.

Question

What should I pack / bring?

Answer

Crete tends to be between 65 (night) and 90 degrees (day) during this time of year, more likely 70 at night and 85 during the day (barring a heat wave). Normal beach / summer wear, light jacket for evenings if breezy, and anything you want to wear for the events.

Question

I can't find the flights / prices you mentioned in earlier comms about the trip, any tips?

Answer

Some of the connecting flights from major european hubs have started booking up given its the busiest time of year in this area (why we tried to send out details early)! Let us know if you have trouble finding reasonable flights and we will try to help. Also, try searching multiple one-way trips if you can't find flights via round trip (you may have better luck).

Question

Do I need an international driver's license to rent a car in Crete?

Answer

Technically you do not need one as long as you have a valid US and EU driver's license. Some car rental agencies may insist on you having one (as are slow to read/adopt the new laws), but you do not need one. If you want to get one as a precaution, you can get one at your local AAA.
