Melanie and Ryan’s story began in late June 2024 with a simple like on the Hinge dating app. One of those small moments that quietly changes everything. Not expecting much to come of it, they matched. A few days later, Ryan was convinced it was already over when Melanie mentioned she’d be heading out on a Fourth of July camping trip, completely out of service and unable to respond. Surely ghosting…but no! Much to Ryan’s surprise (and relief), Melanie messaged him again after the trip. Her best decision yet. Not long after, they met in person for their first date at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in mid July 2024. What started as a slightly awkward coffee date turned into a highly competitive mini-golf game filled with laughter (and Melanie absolutely crushing Ryan). From there, the day unfolded into hours of strolling through galleries and sitting on a bench out on the lawn, sharing stories and jokes. After seven hours - yes, seven - they finally decided to leave, only to be delayed by Melanie’s creative navigation skills, which resulted in a full loop around the museum. Yes, Melanie now has a Garmin watch to help with the navigation. When they finally reached the parking garage, they discovered both their cars had been locked in for the night, ending the date with a call to security and a story they’d never forget. On July 28, 2024, they made it official, beginning a year filled with adventures, deep conversations, and countless memories that only strengthened their bond. On the weekend of their one year anniversary, they returned to where it all began, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, where Ryan proposed. After a chorus of “wait, what?” Melanie said, "yes yes yes yes!" What started with a tap on a phone screen became a love rooted in connection, growth, intention, and lots of sass. Melanie and Ryan are so excited to celebrate this next chapter with the people who mean the most to them.
