On the very first night of college, Jess and Katy met a group of Roxbury boys. The boys asked them to come over later that night to get to know each other a bit better. That night when they showed up to the boys room, Craig and Katy locked eyes for the first time.
Through the first two months of college, Craig and Katy continued to get to know each other. Some might say they were together, but Craig was insistent that they were NOT in a relationship...until he started to get sick. On October 28, 2015, after a week of Katy taking care of a him, Craig had such a severe case of strep throat that he could barely swallow or speak. Katy, his totally 'not-girlfriend', called and arranged for an ambulance to take him to the nearest hospital. At said hospital, Katy stayed with him all day as various doctors poked and prodded him with needles and medications. She called his mother and arranged for her to come meet them at the hospital. She held his hand through the draining of a tonsillar abscess. Finally, after 12 hours of a hospital stay, Craig decided that Katy was good enough to qualify as girlfriend material.
On Christmas Day, Katy's family dropped the bomb on her that no one would be opening any presents until Craig arrived. "Why?" Katy demanded. "We do this every year!" But the family was steadfast that they would wait for Craig. "This is dumb," Katy thought. At least she could lounge in her pajamas all day. "You should really get dressed up," Katy's mom tells her. "We always wear pajamas on Christmas!" Katy exclaims. But her mom was steadfast that she should get dressed up. "This is dumb," Katy thought. Craig arrives carrying many boxes, including one almost as large as he is. "It's probably for Kevin," Katy thought. Time for gifts - the big one ends up in Katy's pile. Strange. She saves it for last. She is the only one left opening presents. Everyone else is done. Everyone is staring at her. Everyone has their phones out. Everyone is acting weird today. Katy begins on her large box. Inside lay a slightly smaller, also wrapped box. Inside that one, another. And another. "There better be a ring in here after all this work," Katy jokes. And inside one of the boxes, finally, a purse! Lovely. Done? No. Inside the purse, more small boxes. In the smallest box, a ring box. The tears flow. The family claps. The ring fits. Now here we are, getting married!
