Set the scene: August 2019. Katie had just moved back to Kansas City from California. During one Tuesday wine night with the girls, she signed up for Match.com and Craig was the first person to connect. She was a goner the minute he said he was making homemade pickles and listening to a podcast. Craig was instantly enamored by Katie's photo and witty disposition. The rest is history.
Set the Scene: November 24th, 2021 After much anticipation, the day had finally arrived- even though Katie didn't realize it at the time. It was the perfect day. Craig and Katie did all of their favorite things: skeeball competition at Up Down (Craig: 1 Katie: 3), cooked dinner together, and finally revisited the place of their first date: J. Rieger & Co to get a "stamp" on their distillery passport. Katie was under the impression that they were meeting some close friends, who were 'running late.' Little did she know they were hiding out in the gift shop to take pictures of the proposal. While Katie & Craig waited, he suggested they go down the slide and poke around the gift shop. Katie, not realizing the slide was part of the plan, said she would do the slide at the end of the evening and would take the stairs. Craig (unsuccessfully) continued to try and get Katie down the slide, but she stubbornly took the stairs. Craig darted down the slide and scurried away, much to the confusion of Katie. When Katie reached the bottom of the stairs, Craig was there with a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers and said, "Would you marry me?" to which Katie eloquently responded, "Wait what." Craig, realizing he was still standing, got down on one knee, took out the ring, and said, "Oh sorry, would you marry me, please?" Spoiler: Katie said yes. As soon as she responded, Craig had the establishment play their favorite song (You Time by Scotty McCreery) and their friends popped out to celebrate.
