Zack Determined to beat the odds and find his perfect match during a time when spontaneously meeting someone in real life became nearly impossible thanks to the pandemic, Zack came across Kate’s Hinge profile the week of Halloween in 2020. “Wow, she's gorgeous.” Zack proclaimed to his friend Dave on the phone. “I think I’m just going to go for it on the first message.” “What are you going to say?” Dave asked in a “can’t wait to hear this” tone. “Do you want to meet at Maverick Coffee at 10:30 am on Saturday?” Zack replied. “Haha. Proposing a Saturday morning coffee for your first date. Classic Cox message. Are you going to wear your beanie too?” Dave wittily adds. Attempting to spice up the monotony of another Monday afternoon, Zack sends the message to Kate. A few hours go by—no reply. Another day goes by—and still no reply. After sitting in his thoughts and concluding that his message might’ve been too direct, a Hinge notification lights up his phone. It’s a message from Kate. “Hi! I may be going to Dallas this weekend but if I don’t I would love to. I’ll let you know”. Feeling deterred and unconvinced he will hear back, Zack replies “Sounds good.” The week goes by—no message from Kate. Already taming his expectations that the two wouldn’t meet, Zack writes off this potential love story. Then in true dramatic form, a Hinge notification pops up. It’s a message from Kate. Zack’s stomach drops in preparation for the unfortunate news. Kate After moving to Scottsdale from LA during the pandemic and not being able to go out and meet anyone, Kate’s friends convinced her to download Hinge after finding their own success on the app. She had never used a dating app before and was reluctant to start but if there was ever a time this would be it. She found the experience to be overwhelming and stress-inducing and basically stopped using it after a week. Kate’s mom convinced her to try it one more time. She saw that she had a message from ‘Zack’. It was straight to the point with a direct plan—exactly what she was looking for. Kate was potentially going out of town that weekend for Halloween and he had sent the message a couple of days ago so the odds were not looking good. Kate tried her luck and sent a response. Zack was still interested. Days had gone by. Kate knew she needed to let him know if she was staying in town or not. She didn’t know what it was about Zack but felt that she needed to go on this date. “I decided not to go to Dallas this weekend. I’m still free to get coffee on Saturday if you are.” She replied to Zack with hope.

Saturday morning comes. The two meet for coffee. Zack, unsure what to wear, opts for his classic black Levis, black t-shirt, and white Converse. Kate, with her floral Reformation top and long blonde hair, looks like she was just picked up from Santa Monica Boulevard and dropped somewhere in Scottsdale, Arizona. At the end of this nearly four-hour first date, Kate confidently confessed to her friend Maddie, “he’s going to be my husband.” While Zack shared a similar sentiment with his friend Dave, “I think she’s the one.”

Nearly four years later, Zack proposed to Kate amongst the orchard trees in Sedona, Arizona in the summer of 2024. The two dreamed of a historic location for their wedding day so when they discovered that a bank built in the 1920’s would be converted into a wedding venue in downtown Tucson, Arizona it felt fated. Their wedding will be held on March 29, 2025, at The Treasury 1929.
