We started off as acquaintances in January of 2023. We attended the same life group at church and only knew of each other through mutual friends. Things changed in August of 2023 at a friend's wedding when we shared a brief, but catalytic moment on the dance floor. As we shouted the lyrics to "You Don't Know You're Beautiful" by One Direction, we noticed each other for the first time and vividly remember feeling something shift. By the end of the night, Katie's best friend Brook distinctly remembers Katie mentioning potentially being interested in Tommy and Tommy remembers sending a text to his best friend about potentially being interested in Katie. Within the week, Tommy added Katie on social media and ended up talking with her after church on Sunday expressing his interest in getting to know her more once he returned from police academy in December. By God's will, we ended up having the opportunity to get to know each other much sooner than that. One month later in September, we encountered each other again on yet another wedding dance floor. During the slow song, Tommy walked over to Katie and spun her into a slow dance as she was walking off the floor and said, "you can't catch my eye on two dance floors and not have me dance with you." He asked Katie out by the end of the night and she said yes. We talked, made plans, exchanged numbers, and the following weekend, September 23rd, we went on our first date! This began our four month long-distance relationship where Tommy drove back and forth from police academy in Spokane to the west side nearly every weekend to take Katie out on dates. We made things official on November 10th as Tommy asked Katie to be his girlfriend and she said yes! We continued to grow in our love for each and the Lord in the year that followed with the Holy Spirit guiding us each step of the way. On August 23rd, 2024 Tommy got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry him and we got engaged! There is no doubt in our minds that God orchestrated and ordained our relationship and He has made it abundantly clear that He designed us for each other. We praise God with great joy for His kindness and His sovereignty over our lives and for bringing us together. We can't wait to celebrate what He has done and the hope that we have in Him on our wedding day! We look forward to marriage and the privilege it will be to reflect Christ and point others to the truth of the gospel even more when we become one.
