Alex and Lindsay first met at a CU football game tailgate in September 2019. Lindsay overheard Alex talking about St. Louis to Lindsay's high school friends, so she joined the conversation. Lindsay began playing the name game with Alex, as many of her friends from the University of Kansas were from Alex's original hometown. They were fast to find shared acquaintances, which made for an instant connection. Alex was quickly interested in this tall, blonde, blue-eyed beauty. Lindsay was intrigued that she had found someone who had moved around and explored big cities the way that she had. The conversation was brief, but by the time they parted ways to enter the game, Alex had secured her number. This is when the real game began. Alex began a passionate pursuit, and Lindsay began a streak of denial. Lindsay had just moved back to Colorado from Los Angeles, where her dating life was nonexistent. She was happy being independent and wasn't looking for a companion. Alex had other plans. The evening of the day they first met, Alex reached out to Lindsay to see if she wanted to meet up for drinks or join his dinner party back in Denver. She politely declined. Lindsay 1. Alex 0. Alex followed up a few days later to see if Lindsay wanted to attend a concert with him. Lindsay’s sister, Jordan, was in town, so she, of course, said no. This didn’t bother Alex. He encouraged Lindsay to bring Jordan to the concert with him. She laughed and again politely declined. Lindsay 2. Alex 0. Finally, Alex persisted with gusto and asked Lindsay if he could take her to drinks, dinner, a concert, or all of the above. Lindsay finally obliged. Lindsay 2. Alex 1. The first date included rooftop cocktails at Linger, a Mediterranean meal at Ash’kara, and wine tasting. Lindsay believed Alex found her particularly funny because of the way he laughed at her stories. Alex thought, “This is the one.” The night ended with a kiss, and Alex was smitten. Lindsay 3. Alex 2. The next day, Alex sent flowers to Lindsay's office of 14 women. She was surprised and slightly mortified, so she checked with friends to see if this was normal behavior. Some confirmed this was the behavior of a serial killer, and others said it was a great show of his honest intentions or a “boss move.” Lindsay errored on the side of fear, but something deep inside told her not to write him off just yet. Lindsay 3. Alex 3. Next came a series of fun, romantic & surprising dates. Lindsay told Alex about a game called We’re Not Really Strangers that she had played with strangers in LA. Alex bought the game immediately and surprised Lindsay with it on their next date. The game involves a series of deep and intentional questions that take you from strangers to emotionally connected friends. It requires both parties to be vulnerable and honest. Tears were shed, hugs were shared, and sparks flew. Lindsay's LA boy blocker was brought down, and they were falling in love. Lindsay 4. Alex 4. Once Lindsay's guard came down, and more of Alex's character was revealed, the tables turned, and she grew more enamored with every interaction. Lindsay's streak of denial was over. Alex was no longer perceived as the man who had seen too many movies. Now, both in passionate pursuit, they are destined for happily ever after. Game over.
