Flight
If you are traveling from the US, we recommend flying into either of the major airports in Paris - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY). While you can fly directly to the south of France, getting to the venue still requires a train ride which can be easier to sort out coming from Paris.
Train
From Paris, you'll want to take the train to Valence TGV. Make sure you check the destination because there are 2 Valence stations. Roundtrip tickets are between 50-100 euro, run once every 2 hours and take about 2 hours to arrive in Valence. https://en.oui.sncf/en/tgv/route/paris/valence For a slightly cheaper option, you can take the Flix bus. Tickets are around 40 euro, buses run 4 times a day and take 9 hours to arrive in Valence. https://global.flixbus.com/ Whether you choose train or bus, we recommend purchasing your tickets early to avoid the summer time ticket surge pricing. We will be arranging shuttles to and from the Valence TGV station to the venue the week of the wedding. Check back later for updates!
Rental Car
If you'd prefer a leisurely 6 hour drive to the south, you can rent a car from a number of agencies in Paris. Additionally, there are lots of lovely sights in the area surrounding the venue that are easier to see if you have your own vehicle (see the "Things to Do" tab). While having a car does give you more freedom and flexibility, consider your access to GPS as it is easy to get lost driving in the south without it. We've provided a few links to rental car companies below. Please note, that if you are anything like me (Lindsey), you will NOT be able to actually drive the car you rent because it will 100% be a stick shift. Europeans don't like automatics. Sorry y'all. To my few stick driving friends, GOOD JOB! Sixt: www.sixt.com Avis: www.avis.com Budget: www.budget.com
Travel Note
We will be organizing transportation to and from the venue from the Valence TGV train station on. Please check back here closer to the event date for an exact schedule.
House Or Rental
For our guests traveling from overseas, you will have priority to stay with us at the venue both Monday 6/13 and Tuesday 6/14. We ask that you let us know which nights you'd like to reserve by answering a brief survey question when you RSVP. If you choose to stay outside of the venue or want to stay in the area after the event, there are rental options in the surrounding area. You can look via AirBnB in the region Saint Nazaire en Royans which is a 20-minute drive from the venue. If AirBnB is falling short, you can also look for a "gîte" via www.gites-de-france.com/en which is basically just a house rental. You can find places slightly closer to the venue, but it's more cost effective if you book in a big group (as gîtes are usually really big and have like, 13 bedrooms). Hotel options are smaller and more limited but they can get you a bit closer. You can check the area Saint-Thomas-en-Royans on booking.com for a full list.
Travel Note
A few other notes about traveling in France... + While most people speak English in Paris, there are fewer English speakers in Valence. Most people know a handful of English words, but having some of the information for the event (like the address) handy in your phone to show someone may help you communicate. + In Paris, you will have access to Uber. There is the possibility of using Uber in Valence as well, but there are not many drivers in the area. Taxis are a good alternative and will be readily available at the the train station when you arrive. If you'd like to taxi to the venue, it should be around a $30 ride.
