Although we went to UofL together, we actually met on bumble! We talked on the app for a few days and eventually decided to go on a date when we were both back in Louisville. However, the night before the planned date, we ended up meeting at a karaoke bar (the infamous akiko's) and singing 3 songs together! Things must have gone pretty well because we went on the date the next night and even changed plans to make sure we ended up spending New Years Eve together. We've been pretty much inseparable since and have been told we still act like we're in the "honeymoon phase" 3 years later!
We went on a trip to Asheville, NC for New Years 2021. We had just arrived to our airbnb and had decided to go on a hike to a few waterfalls. We almost didn't go on the hike due to some flooding on the trail, but Zac didn't seem concerned about it at all. Once we started on the hike, Zac was being really quiet (which is pretty strange for him), despite my many attempts to make conversation. He also kept pulling me off of the trail to find a "good view", which I thought was strange, but never would've guessed it was because he was about to propose. Finally, I asked what was wrong and Zac said that he was nervous and when asked why, he said he didn't even know how to start with what he was about to say and that was when I knew. He got down on one knee, I started crying, he started crying, and neither of us really remember what happened next. It was perfect and so unexpected!
Courtney had absolutely no idea that a few days before our trip I had met her dad at a Mr. Gatti's for lunch. After driving to Asheville to spend New Years with white knuckles on a sweat drenched steering wheel, I thought that a beautiful morning sunrise hike would be a good time to propose. But we got there and the weather wasn't looking good for that plan. We went on a quick hike that day, and I'm not sure I've ever been so nauseous. Courtney had zero clue that I had a ring in my pocket and that became evident when I asked her to marry me, at which point I briefly blacked out from the nerves and the next thing I know the ring was on her finger.
