We met at Kingsway High School where we both matriculated in 2013. What was supposed to be a movie night for four at the cinema ended up being a movie night for two when our friends bailed on us. Thus creating "Our First Date". Pitch Perfect 2, Panarotti's pizzas & an accidental brush of hands was the catalyst to an amazing love story, culminating in our marriage 7 years to the day!

Courtney & I left KZN for a family visit to Johannesburg in March of 2021, I left with a girlfriend and came back with a fiancé. A date night out to Kloofzicht Lodge and Spa for dinner with a view transpired into a surprise proposal. Having what Courtney thought was a proposal set up for "another couple" with a photographer on site, turned out to be OUR setup. With her back turned away from me, I gave the photographer the signal that that was the moment. When Courtney turned around, sun setting over a lake for the perfect backdrop, she was greeted by me down on one knee. Both of us were lost for words in that magical moment, imprinted into our minds forever. Once we found our composure, I asked Courtney to marry me and she responded with an overwhelming "YES" and embrace! - Shaylen
