Courtney and I first became acquittances at a Country Music Festival back in the summer of 2015, but sparks didn’t start to fly until that fall. On Saturday October 10th, 2015, UMD had their homecoming weekend. After the football game concluded (with the Dogs beating St. Cloud 34-27) we all went downtown to the infamous Grandma’s Sports Garden (RIP). When we arrived, we went to upper bar and overlooked the dance floor for prime people watching. While chatting with my cousins, they noticed that I really had my eye on this Courtney that I remember from WeFest. After enough liquid courage, Alex, Brook, Lance and Hayley had talked me into making a move. I walked down to the dancefloor and started dancing with Cam, Paxton and Courtney. After lots of spins and twirls I pulled Courtney in close and asked her for her number. We exchanged numbers, I stopped dancing, and instantly left the bar and headed home. I didn’t send her a text that night as it would give off the wrong message. I waited until Sunday afternoon to follow up. We started texting that day and I asked her on a date. That string of texting each other, never came to an end. Nobody ever ended the conversation, never said goodnight. After an unfortunate head injury that ended my season early, I was back home in the twin cities, and had talked Courtney into coming over to officially light the flame. She took the leap of faith and bit the bullet. While meeting Dave and Lynn for the first time, as well as having our first 1 on 1 in person conversation while I was wearing sunglasses in a dimly lit house, she gave me the nickname of Stevie Wonder, but was still interested in me. To this day, we never stopped talking, and the rest is history.
Oh boy, thinking back to the day where I met Drew feels like just yesterday. Flashback to summer of 2015, in Detroit Lakes MN, at a country music festival called WeFest. I was at the festival with my two besties Leah & Coop. We wanted to go visit our friend Paxton at the “UMD” campsite. Us three walkover and I spotted a cutie throwing the football around. I turned to Coop and said, “Man he sure has a good arm” and she replied, “Well I sure hope he has a good arm because he’s our quarterback at UMD.” Drew ended up approaching me at the campsite and introduced himself. He then proceeded to ask, “Would you like a bacon wrapped burger?” And that folks was the last thing he said to me… no moves made, no numbers exchanged. Until… Flash forward to UMD homecoming October 2015. Drew had since added me on every social media channel, but still did not reach out. I headed up to Duluth to celebrate homecoming with my besties Paxton & Coop. We tailgated, cheered the UMD football team on from the endzone and ended up going down to Grandmas after the game to celebrate a UMD win. Drew and I’s story really started on the dance floor at Grandmas. We were dancing side by side with our good ole friends Cam and Paxton. The entire night Drew and I swing danced. His Bauer cousins were watching us from the bar above the dance floor. After Drew secured my number that night, he left. The Bauer cousins were a bit concerned that Drew spined me too much. The next day Drew texted me and asked me on a date. From that day on folks, we’ve never stopped talking. Drew is my rock, my biggest cheerleader, and my best friend. I can’t wait to be Drew Bauer’s wife, I’m truly the lucky one folks.
