It was Thursday 7/3 on a nice warm evening at Harpos. I was there with a few friends and we had been sitting outside sipping on quarter draws most of the evening when we decided it was time to get up and move around - so we decided to go inside and do a lap at the bar to see if we knew anyone. Once we got about half way around the bar we noticed 3 girls sitting at a table seemingly alone & completely full of draws. We briefly talked it over decided that we’d introduce ourselves, and worst case scenario if we got shot down we’d snag a few beers on our way out. So my buddy took the lead and very smoothly made the introduction to the table. That’s when I locked eyes with Courtney, who was sitting on the back left side of the table. I introduced myself & maneuvered my way back to sit down next to her. We got to chatting a little bit, and like any small talk does, she asked me where I was from. I told her I grew up in Liberty, and Courtney said “Oh, well I have 1 friend from Liberty” - who just happened to be one of my best friends growing up & still today. It seemed that was the only connection we needed. The rest of the night we were fixated on each other, all conversations just happening naturally like they would with a lifelong friend. I couldn’t tell you what all was said, but I knew at the end of the night I had met someone special.
It was July 3rd and I remember I had been studying all day and finally after my mother nagging me that I needed to go out and socialize with people, myself and some of my girlfriends decided to go to Harpos. It was 25 cent draws and we weren't going to pass that up. We got our three trays of beers and seemingly made our way to a table. I remember seeing a group of guys making their way to our table and one of them asking me if he could use our chair to tie his shoe...(come to find out he had shoes that didn't need to be tied.) While everyone was greeting each other I saw Tyler at the back of the group and locked eyes with him, that's when he made his way over to sit by me.Not only was he very handsome, he also had this smile that was hard to miss. Small talk started and like every intro goes I asked where he was from. He told me he was from Liberty. I had only met one person ever from Liberty that I knew from KU. Come to find out it was one of his best friends, past and current. After that conversation just became natural. Besides him telling me he was a Mizzou fan, we instantly clicked. After talking to him all night and him continuously making me laugh, I realized that I had met someone really special.
