How We Met

4.20.18

Courtney and Shira almost didn't meet. Why? Well they were both on a dating app called Hinge. Court initially found Shira's profile to be intimidating, so she swiped left on her. For those over 45, that means Court rejected Shira. Sad. But fortunately for these two love birds, they were both on more than one dating app (millennials, amirite?) and found each other again! Luckily, Courtney decided not to let Shira pass her by this time around. They ultimately connected on JSwipe - which is essentially Tinder for the Jews. It's a very modern, very kosher romance. After a week of constant texting, they went on their first date. They drank mojitos at Shalel Lounge on the upper west side, and talked for four hours straight. After three weeks of dating and being inseparable, they said "I love you." Shira wants you to know that Courtney said it first. But Shira almost said it about 15x before Courtney did, so who are we kidding? If you're still reading, high-five. You've really earned your invite to this wedding.

The Proposal

4.12.19

Courtney refers to Shira as a "collector," which is a polite way of saying "hoarder." It's never messy, cluttered hoarding. It's more of a keeping-of-things-for-sentimental-purposes, but in neatly labeled bins that are tucked away. What's the point? So glad you asked. Shira has been saving basically EVERYTHING from the time she and Court started dating. Receipts, screen grabs of cute texts, ticket stubs, and handwritten notes to each other. Shira didn't know exactly why she was keeping everything yet, but she knew someday, she would use it for something. Eventually, it dawned on Shira that the best way to propose to Court was to make a book that documented their love story, told through everything she had stashed away in this tidy, unassuming, not-in-anyone's-way-so-what-do-you-care box (I am SO organized, so let me keep my things! - Shira) On April 12th, 2019, while Courtney went to work, Shira went and bought Court's favorite cookies (shoutout to City Cakes in Chelsea. Send us free cookies for this product plug), her favorite candles from Anthropologie (ditto), a bottle of champagne, and set up a GoPro in the apartment. Courtney came home, completely unaware of what was about to happen. Shira told Courtney that her anniversary present arrived earlier than expected (a mere ruse to throw her off, mwahaha!), and asked if she could give it to her. Court unwrapped the book and flipped through the pages, loving it, but not suspecting anything. When she arrived at the last page, she read the words, "Will you marry me?" Shira got down on one knee, which is difficult after two knee surgeries, so you know it must be love. Courtney said "YES!" See GoPro pics below. Come over and check out the book. It means a lot to us. But wash your hands first.
