There are TWO airports near MILAN that you can choose to fly into: **MALPENSA (MXP): ~1H.30 MINUTE DRIVE TO VARENNA (This is Milans major international airport and likely the best option!!) LINATE (LIN): ~1H.15 MINUTE DRIVE TO VARENNA TIP #1: Don't forget your passport! TIP #2: Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months AFTER scheduled travel!

From the Airport to Lake Como

From the Airport to the Lake: Public Transport: From Milan Malpensa or Linate Airports: THERE ARE NO TRAINS RUNNING FROM MILAN TO VARENNA -- YOU WILL NEED TO RENT A CAR OR GET A PRIVATE TRANSFER! Rent a car : This is best if you’re staying near us in Varenna—otherwise make sure you have access to drive to your accommodations. I do not recommend staying in Bellagio which is only accessible via ferry or private boat transfer! If you choose to, we highly recommend that you rent a car at the airport so that it's easy for you to get around the lake. Car rentals from most major companies including HERTZ, AVIS, ENTERPRISE/EUROPECAR, BUDGET, DOLLAR etc. are available at both airports.
