After “matching” on Bumble, Matt asked Courtney out on a date. Being Courtney’s first app date she was full of nerves but with encouragement from her best friend Sarah, she went. Soon hours flew by reminiscing over separate but similar Chico State memories, mutual interests, laughter and beers. It was an instant connection and it didn’t take long until they couldn’t get enough of one another. Matt and Courtney dated and adventured in San Francisco for 2 years and then decided to move back to their mutually-beloved city of Chico as Matt would begin a new adventure going back to school to begin his teaching career. On December 31, 2019 Matt and Courtney went to Ashland, Oregon to celebrate New Years & Matt graduating the credential program for a few days. In their best element, hiking in the beautiful Oregon wilderness, Matt proposed to Courtney at a lookout point at the end of a trail.
