Courtney and Matt met back in 2018 at a cabin in northern Minnesota (thanks Rose). At the time Courtney went to UMD while Matt went to UMN. The following summer they both happened to go back to the Lundquist cabin. They ended up talking until the sun rose while being swarmed by mosquitos. Neither expected to see each other again anytime soon but a few weeks later they met up at the Myhre family cabin (our friends and their cabins were good to us that summer). Their “first date” followed a month later when they decided to go to a Luke Bryan concert. After this, Matt made trips up to UMD while Courtney came down for weekends at UMN until Courtney decided to become a Gopher. He totally had nothing to do with that decision. The rest is history.
Matt and Courtney had decided to go to her parents house on Lake Superior for a long weekend and had been working from home. On Thursday, the weather was mid 30°, 40 mph winds, and partly raining/snowing. When they were working, Matt kept asking Courtney to go outside and look at the waves off the lake from the intense winds. She kept saying “no, why do you need me?” Matt knew dang well why he needed her, and Courtney was proving to be stubborn. Courtney’s mom then tried to intervene and tell Courtney that the waves “were super cool” and she’d “never seen anything like it.” In all her years up north she really should have known something was going to happen. Courtney then begrudgingly agreed and whipped on her purple hat, big red jacket, sweatpants, dirty boots, and ran outside. He proposed while down on the beach, on one knee, and while Courtney was wearing “big red.” The pictures were not great, but it makes for a fun story. Wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
