Things To Do

There's a lot to do while in Des Moines for the weekend, see below for a few of our favorite spots.
Downtown Farmers' Market

Downtown Farmers' Market

302 Court Ave., Des Moines, IA 50309

If you get to town early, you'll want to stop by the farmers' market. Takes place from 7am-12pm every Saturday morning between May and October. The breakfast sandwiches from Rinehart Family Farms and the pupusas from Pupusas El Salvador are our favorites.

Shop the East Village

Shop the East Village

505 E Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309

A fun way to spend an afternoon, the local shops in the East Village offer something for everyone. If funny Midwestern-themed t-shirts are your thing, check out Raygun.

The Iowa Taproom

The Iowa Taproom

215 East 3rd Street, Des Moines, IA 50309
, (515) 243-0827

Rather than point you to one of the several good breweries in town, head over to the Iowa Taproom and sample a selection. They have 120 taps, each pouring a different Iowa brew. The best in town, in our opinion, are made by 515 Brewing Company.

Malo

900 Mulberry Street, Des Moines, IA 50309
, (515) 244-5000

The best tacos in town (and probably our most common take-out meal), it's right below Hans's condo. The chipotle crema sauce is the right move, either on a chicken or shrimp taco.

Mars Cafe

Mars Cafe

2318 University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50311
, (515) 369-6277

Our favorite coffee in town. This is the main location, which is a short drive from downtown, but there's a smaller cafe in the east village as well.

For all the days along the way
