I had planned a surprise trip to celebrate our 2 year anniversary to his favorite place; New Orleans. It was only fair that we went to his favorite place because we spent our 1 year anniversary at my favorite place; Walt Disney World! This trip was, mostly for him. Little did I know that he was taking my surprise for him and turning it around to surprise me! He was going to propose! All I told him was when to take vacation from work. I handled everything else; hotel, flights and things to do. We went to the casino, Lafayette Cemetery (where one of his favorite shows, Vampire Diaries was partially filmed). We went for walks along the Mississippi River on the boardwalk, saw Saint Louis Cathedral, walked through parks, shopped, played arcade games, played laser tag, and went to the aquarium. We took a night walking tour of the French Quarter to hear some of the ghost stories associated with New Orleans and, of course, we walked down Bourbon Street. The day before we were supposed to leave to head back home we were scheduled to do our walking tour of the French Quarter. We left early to walk through Armstrong park that we had walked past many times on our way back to the hotel at night. It was a dreary day and it rained most of the day but that didn't stop us. We went and walked through the park. Looked at all the beautiful sculptures and art around the park. We got to this old beautiful wooden bridge with lights on the side and I was walking looking at the water fountain to my left. He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him. I turned to look at him and he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand telling me that I was the best thing to ever happen to him, how happy I made him and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was bawling like a baby. He asked "Courtney Louise Loberger, will you marry me?" I was crying so hard I only whispered "yes" and nodded my head. He put the ring on my finger and we kissed in the rain. I will never forget that day.
We met through one of my best friends Natalie and her boyfriend Jace. He was friends with him and I was friends with her. That changed quickly. Natalie and Gilbert became good friends. Which then led to all of us hanging out. We (Gilbert and I) helped them (Natalie and Jace) move. While we were helping we were carrying out dresser drawers. I was carrying one, he was carrying three and he still made it a point to not only open but hold the door for me no matter how many times I tried to get him to go first because the drawers were heavy. The first thought that went through my head was wow chivalry is not dead. I knew then he was special. We all went to a movie together and he was dousing his popcorn in salt saying that he needed the salt to fall all the way through the popcorn. I showed him the napkin trick. For those of you that don't know what the napkin trick is; pour salt in a napkin, fold it up and take it with you to pour on the popcorn once you get through the part that is already salted. It blew his mind and for the longest time he said that was when he knew I was special. We all continued to hang out together. Him and I then started to text and got to know each other. Meanwhile, Natalie was pushing the two of us together. Telling the other that we liked them. She even brought him with to Six Flags so that we could hang out and so that I could "scare him to death." Finally, we both admitted that we liked each other. We grew close quickly. He came with to my birthday dinner with my family. We ended the night with a great conversation and a kiss. He asked me to be his girlfriend and I accepted! When I got accepted into the Disney College Program in March for that following August and he said he would come with me, uprooting the life he had. That was when I knew that he was the one. We had an amazing time and grew even more as a couple! Little did I know when he asked me out that 3 years, 7 months and 12 days later I would be marrying my best friend!
