Evan & Courtney first laid eyes on each other in 2018 at Cecil's 25th birthday party in New York City. At this time, Courtney was living in NYC and Evan lived in Washington D.C. Both singles were getting the most out of their 20's in two of the nations most prominent cities and the initial meet did not go any further than an introduction and connection on Instagram. Fast forward to 2019, after 5 incredible years in the City, Courtney decided to relocate to Los Angeles. During her final months in the City, she had a conversation with Cecil on the balcony of his LIC penthouse where he shared that when the time was right he had a vision for Courtney and that vision included Evan. He described Evan as a wholesome, Southern man who came from a good family with strong values and desire to have a family of his own one day. Courtney appreciated the conversation and proceeded to move to LA in pursuit of following her dream to found & lead a school. After spending time in Nashville and D.C. Evan relocated to Richmond, VA where he continued to elevate in his career, purchase a home and fulfill his financial and personal goals that he set for himself. During the summer of 2020, Cecil & Courtney were catching up on the phone to share career updates and Cecil said "Hey, I'm proud of you and all but now you need a man. Do you remember my cousin Evan? He's single and ready to settle down, I think you two would be perfect together. If you pass up on this opportunity, you may not get it back.. don't ever say I didn't help you." With Courtney's blessing, Cecil circled back to Evan and told him to shoot his shot. Evan did just that and the two started to get to know each other. One day in September 2020, Courtney finally said to Evan "enough of all the back & forth, when am I actually going to see you?" Evan replied "let me know when and where and we can make it happen." Coming out of the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, Courtney suggested that for the first meet up, they get a cabin in Lake Tahoe. Both singles booked their flights and Evan booked a beautiful, romantic cabin. Both nervous and excited, the two made their way to Reno, Nevada with hopes of the road trip and weekend trip to Lake Tahoe, also known as their "first date", working out. By the grace of God, the trip was incredible - so much so that Evan looked Courtney in the eyes one cozy morning and said two words: "you're mine." Courtney rolled her eyes with the thought in her mind of "prove it" and Evan did just that. The following two years, the two became an exclusive couple and maintained a joyful, healthy, long distance relationship where they would fly to see each other every 3-6 weeks and spend every single night falling asleep on the phone together. This approach led the couple to authentically build a genuine relationship on a foundation of trust, love and respect. In January of 2023, while Courtney was working for her M.Ed at Columbia University in the heart of NYC where the two first met 5 years prior, Evan got on one knee on the steps of Teachers College and asked Courtney to take his hand in marriage. Courtney said YES and the two have been locked in at the hip ever sense.
