Some love stories begin instantly. Ours began slowly, over time, and from a distance. We first met in passing in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was stationed in the Army and I was living at the time. We never officially hung out — just occasional smiles and waves whenever we saw each other. Eventually we connected on social media, and every once in a while we would talk, though I never imagined it would turn into something more. Truthfully, I thought he was a little too wild for me. Life took us in different directions, and after he left Alaska, we lost touch for a while. Then on my 30th birthday, everything changed. After seeing a photo I posted, he reached out to wish me a happy birthday, and we started talking again like no time had passed. At the time, he was preparing to leave for training in Yuma, Arizona before heading overseas to Afghanistan for work. When I mentioned I lived in Tucson, he asked how far away it was. Confidently, I told him “about an hour.” It turned out to be three and a half. That didn’t stop him. The very next time I returned home, he drove all 3½ hours just to see me. I was nervous to meet him because I thought he was incredibly handsome and honestly a little intimidating. But that night, while we were watching a movie, he made me laugh so hard over the smallest joke, and in that moment I knew we would get along beautifully. Soon after, he left for Afghanistan for a year, and despite the distance, we talked every single day. Somewhere between the late-night conversations, the time zones, and the miles apart, we built something real. When it came time for him to return home, neither of us wanted a long-distance relationship. Before he even came back from overseas, he shipped his car to me as a way of showing me he was serious about building a life together. And he was. Once his contract ended, he moved to Tucson, Arizona, and we officially began our life side by side. Four years later, we welcomed our beautiful daughter into the world, and through every challenge, every season, and every step of this journey, we’ve continued choosing each other. Now, after all these years, we’re finally getting married — happier, stronger, and more in love than ever. What started with a smile and a wave became a love story built on friendship, perseverance, laughter, and unwavering commitment. He truly is my best friend, and we cannot wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.
