We met through a mutual love of Theatre L'Homme Dieu. Courtney had worked there in 2004 (when Brent was still in high school!) and remained connected to the wonderful humans she met there that summer. That bond kept her going back most summers over the 4th of July, and that led to her meeting Brent, long before they were ever romantical. Brent first discovered TLHD through his time in the SCSU theatre department, and eventually he was pretty much running the place with Earl every summer. And each year on the 4th, we would all flock from the Twin Cities to TLHD and our annual traditions were floating down the river and a special fireworks display hand-fused and lit by Brent and his brother, Kevin. The summer of 2016, the timing was right. Courtney went to TLHD for the 4th, Brent was there. They were both single. Brent caught a fish with his bare hands in the river, and that was it. The rest is history.
When we decided we were ready to take the leap, we shopped for rings together and booked a cabin up north. We took a long weekend to be cozy, cook great food, lounge in the hot tub, and get engaged! It was really important to us that the proposal was just as balanced as we want our marriage to be, so we proposed to each other. It felt authentic to who we are and what we believe in. And it was so special.
