Cody, WY is located 30miles from the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park. The park offers many beautiful attractions from scenic mountain landscapes, steamy geysers and roaming wildlife. A great day trip would have you entering the Northeast Gate outside of Cooke City, MT, touring the park loop and existing through the East Gate, near Cody. This is an amazing experience for any history buff. The Musuem has five different museums within its walls, one of which is the world-renowned gun museum. One could easily spend a day roaming the exhibits.
The Buffalo Bill Dam and State Park is located 10 minutes outside of Cody. It's a quick and free scenic experience. The water will be chilly, but the views will be warm, especially if you catch it around sunset.
Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is absolutely stunning. Located just 20 minutes outside of Cody there are endless views of mountains, trees, landscapes, and wildlife. The end of the Byway leads to either Cooke City or Red Lodge, MT. However, if you're only interested in a few lookouts and scenic stops the road offers that in plenty. Just be sure to top off your tank of gas because there are no gas stations in this scenic landscape.
