From there, our relationship grew and we became inseparable. We never missed the other's football game, swim meet or dance show. We did homework, ate lunch, and went on countless adventures together. Our senior year of high school we were awarded "Couple Most Likely to Get Married." Northgate High School, Class of 2014 was correct because here we are today! - 6/11/14 - When we graduated high school, Ali began at UC Davis. Steven attended The University of Nevada, Reno before transferring to UC Davis his junior year. - 8/27/18 - Post graduation, we packed up and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where Ali attended Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and Steven began his career in finance. Throughout our adventure together, we formed lifelong friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime. We are so grateful for each other, our journey, and all of you.
One of our favorite things to do together is fish off the dock at the family house in Clearlake. We have created many memories there and I knew that it had to be the place I proposed. As for the day, I always wanted it to be on New Years Eve, but I wasn't sure that my plan was going to work out. Ali expected it to happen in the summer of 2020 when we were planning to return from Baltimore, but I was determined to make New Years Eve work. When I heard that the family wanted to go up to the lake over the holidays, I was excited that my plan may work out. I arrived at the lake with a box of supplies hidden in the back of the truck. With the help of Ali's parents, the plan started coming together. Despite a couple of close calls, almost spoiling the surprise, the day was perfect. We were both so nervous and excited that neither of us remember what was said during the proposal. All we know is that we will never forget that feeling of happiness.
My family, Steven and I planned on going to Clearlake after Christmas with no definite plan on when to leave. Steven kept saying it would be fun to go for New Years Eve. I thought this sounded like a good idea so we drove up on December 29th. The first two days we fished, played games, and hung out with Mona. Everything seemed normal. I had no idea what was coming. The morning of the 31st, I woke up and got ready to go to our favorite local winery. As I got ready, I realized I was taking a long time so I stuck my head out of the bedroom and yelled, "Steven" to see if he wanted to sit with me while I finished blowdrying my hair. My dad quickly responded, "he's outside at his car." We had hit a pot hole the day before and the low air alert had turned on so I didn’t think anything of it and kept getting ready. When I finished and came out of the bedroom, everyone was standing around the table. My dad said, "hurry and grab your shoes -- there's an otter on the dock!" I threw on my shoes as fast as I could and headed down to the dock. As I ran out the door, I didn’t see an otter. I saw rose petals, photographs hung on twine and a bottle of champagne in the distance. My heart started racing. I knew what was about to happen. Steven and I made it to the dock when my legs started shaking as he got down on one knee. In that moment I was the happiest I'd ever been. I said "yes" and now we're here. We cannot wait to take this next step and continue our story!
