We first spoke to each other in class one day and quickly discovered we had many classes together at Kennesaw State University. When Dennis asked me on a date, I told him I needed to focus on finals but we ended up meeting to study in the library. Dennis got there early (like always) and thoughtfully told me to bring a jacket (before even knowing I was an icebox). I was late (shocker) but a few hours later of metabolic enzymes and so many unrelated topics, we planned a real date. It was on Mother’s Day and I kept pushing back our date time because the family lunch was lasting longer than anticipated. I remember being nervous about running out to things to talk about and being stuck on a long hike up Kennesaw Mountain, but we talked for hours and even extended our date to milkshakes at Cookout. I went home that day with my cheeks aching from smiling and laughing so much and the rest is history. -Rebecca
After nearly three years of dating, the time finally came to ask Rebecca to marry me! I had the ring and the date was set for the day before the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Rebecca had absolutely no idea what was coming her way that morning. The reason I knew she was clueless about the proposal was because I had to BEG her to take a shower and put real clothes on that morning! I can’t blame her for not wanting to get dressed since our favorite clothes consist of sweatpants and a t-shirt. As we began walking to Forsyth Park that morning (where the proposal was to take place) I was anxious and slightly nauseous. As we arrived at the park Rebecca was expecting to see some of her family there because she believed we were doing a family photo. As if I wasn’t panicking enough on the inside, the first thing one of the family members did was give us a big hug and say “Congratulations!“ After dying a little inside and acting all confused, we managed to get past that moment without tipping Rebecca off about the engagement. Then the moment was finally here. Rebecca and I were standing in front of the Forsyth Park Fountain getting our photo taken. I am nervous as could be and am ready to take the plunge, then BAM a dump truck drives behind us out of nowhere and parks right behind us. It was something you would expect to see happen in a romantic comedy. After suffering through the smell of trash for several minutes, the truck finally moved. The moment was finally here for real this time. I read Rebecca a letter I wrote to her and got down on one knee and asked her if she would marry me. Afterward, there were many smiles, some tears and of course many many beers. -Dennis
