A Frederick Law Olmsted park and site of the 1893 World's Fair - be sure to check out the "Golden Lady" statue, Bobolink Meadow, and the Garden of the Phoenix.
Southside views of the skyline always beat northside views. Bring a blanket to sit on and a good book!
The park setting the western boundary for our neighborhood. A great spot for bird watching and running threshold workouts.
Our go-to in Hyde Park for pizza - Joe likes the pickle pizza, and Claire likes the smoked chicken sausage pizza. The cheese curds are a must!
One of our favorite vacations together was going to New Orleans in 2022 - we love getting a taste of it in Hyde Park. Joe gets the gator po-boy, and Claire gets the fried shrimp.
A great brunch place under the Green Line tracks, serving up food since 1892.
The Pilsen restaurant just opened a new outpost down in Hyde Park!
A Hyde Park staple with something on the menu for everyone. Some of our top picks are the spinach goat cheese pizza, the cheese quesadillas, the Cajun turkey sandwich, and any of the burgers. They also have a great brunch menu, and an adjacent cafe for a quick coffee and pastry. Substitute chocolate ice cream in the Mexicana shake!
This restaurant is actually on the first floor of Joe's college dorm! We recommend the Prosciutto e Rucola and Diavola pizzas, as well as their cocktails.
A great place for breakfast, plus lunch menu and Greek classics. Joe likes the French toast, and Claire is working her way through the omelet section of the menu.
A favorite for burgers and chicken tenders with large outdoor seating space. Ask for the dijonnaise with your fries!
Our favorite Thai place in Hyde Park!
A cafeteria style diner open for breakfast and lunch. While we could give you our recommendations, we'll defer to the menu of Obama's favorites. Cash only.
Known as "Jimmy's" locally, Claire has done at least one p-set here. Cash only.
Claire likes books.
Claire REALLY likes books.
Claire REALLY, REALLY likes books and can't name any other stores in Hyde Park. You can find Joe looking at the out of print math books.
An archeology museum located right on UChicago's campus.
Located on the north end of Jackson Park with tons of interactive exhibits and displays. Be sure to say hi to the baby chicks and keep tabs on their hatching progress during your visit!
