How to get to Lake Lugano (Lugano / Morcote) by plane: The easiest way is to fly into Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Italy or Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. From Milan Malpensa, it’s about 1.5–2 hours by car or 2.5 hours by train to Lugano. From Zurich, it’s about 2.5 hours by train directly to Lugano. Once in Lugano, you can take a taxi, bus, or boat to Morcote (around 20 minutes).

Train & Bus Connection to Morcote: Yes, there is a convenient train and bus connection from Lugano to Morcote. You can either: Take a train from Lugano to Melide (just a few minutes), then continue with bus line 431 to Morcote, or Take bus 431 directly from Lugano (Autosilo Balestra stop) to Morcote. Both routes are quick and scenic, with the journey taking about 25–30 minutes in total.

From Munich to Lugano: Approx. 5–6 hours (about 400 km) via the A96 and A13 motorways, crossing through Austria and the Swiss Alps. The drive is scenic, passing Lake Como before reaching Lugano. From Frankfurt to Lugano: Approx. 6.5–7 hours (about 600 km) via A5 and A2, passing through Basel and Lucerne before heading south to Lugano. From Freiburg to Lugano: Approx. 5–5.5 hours (about 390 km) via A2 through Basel and Lucerne, then south through the Gotthard Tunnel to Lugano. From Zurich to Lugano: Approx. 2.5–3 hours (about 205 km) via the A2 motorway, passing through Lucerne and the Gotthard Tunnel before arriving in Lugano. It’s one of the most beautiful drives in Switzerland, with stunning mountain and lake views along the way.
