Mike "Coves" Kenneth Coverley and Cory Elizabeth Welsh first met during sophomore year of college when they both joined their respective dorm student governments at the University of Southern California. Cory was recruiting for a leadership conference that first semester, and when Mike saw the cute blonde committee leader... he knew he had to apply! The rest was history. But after traveling around Oregon State University's campus together for a few days, they didn't see each other and eventually lost touch. Just over 14 years later, Cory and Mike were both swiping on Hinge over Christmas time when Mike saw the face of an old crush that he recognized. Mike slid into her DM's and asked Cory whether she remembered him... and if she wanted to go for a Runyon Canyon hike sometime. They settled for a classic first date at an old Hollywood staple: the Formosa Cafe in West Hollywood. On Friday January 20th, hours had passed and they had barely taken a bite because they were so busy talking about every topic under the sun. Mike had such a good feeling about that first date that, on the way out, he asked Cory if they could take a selfie. Cory also knew that Mike was someone extra special at the start of their third date, when Mike arrived to take her on the aforementioned weekend hike. He arrived with not only flowers but a bouquet of roses -- but they weren't just red nor were they yellow. The bouquet was red AND yellow- to represent their alma mater's signature colors: cardinal and gold! Mike had mixed two small bouquet's at the local market's florist and Cor knew she had found a thoughtful and creative one. Mike first knew that Cory was the one when he arrived in Maui for their first Hawaiian getaway. He found her waiting at the curb in airport pickup with matching Hawaiian shirt outfits... here he immediately dropped his suitcase, opened it up right there on the sidewalk and revealed to her that he TOO had bought and brought matching, Hawaiian shirt outfits for the both of them! They talked all night over Mai Tais at Maui's famous Monkeypod and Mike told Cor that he wanted to love her forever. Ever since early 2023, the two have been inseparable between West Adams and Studio City (and later, Sherman Oaks). They traveled to Newbury Park, Flagstaff, Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe and Sonoma in their first year. They saw friends in cities from Cinccinatti to Portland and San Diego to San Francisco! Later, they went to Phoenix, Toronto and Buffalo & Orchard Park all to finally meet Mike's extended family! In 2024, Mike and Cor took their first overseas trip to London and Paris for the Olympic Games. On Day 4 of their trip while meandering through the Montmarte district, Mike pulled out his ukelele while overlooking the city of Paris beneath the steps of Le Sacre Coeur Basilica. Once a small crowd had gathered and a few amateur photographers had their phones out, Mike got down on one knee! After playing their favorite Ben Platt song & Le Vie en Rose, Mike asked Cory to marry him. Naturally, she said "Oui!" Cory and Mike have had the most magical season as "fiancees" since the moment of Mike's proposal. They arrived at dinner at Chez Francis only to find Cory's Mom Debi awaiting them at the riverfront cafe. The entire extended family then visited both the Eiffel Tower and the infamous Le Moulin Rouge. Cory and Mike came home and traveled to Las Vegas, Santa Barbara and San Diego (where they had to browse wedding venues!). They now live together in Sherman Oaks with their fur baby Simba and Mike's long time collection of freshwater fish-- starring the tank commissioner comm-"fish"-inner Roger Goodell. Cory & Mike are so unspeakably grateful for the role you've played in their lives & can't wait to celebrate with you in sunny San Diego!
