There are several ferries to the island, the most common are from West Seattle (Fauntleroy) or Tacoma (Point Defiance). Ferries run roughly every hour, sometimes more often, between 4am and past midnight each day. You can drive on in your car or walk on. It's about $26 for car and driver plus $6 per passenger. Walking on is $6 per person. You only pay one direction and you pay at the toll booth when you arrive at the ferry dock. Cash or card is fine. Each ferry takes about 20 minutes to cross and the workers will instruct you where to line up, which lane to pull your car into and when to leave. There are bathrooms and vending machines on the ferry. NOTE: Friday afternoons get extremely long lines (especially the W Seattle ferry) so get there VERY early before your ferry time or else expect to miss one and have to wait for the next one. ANOTHER NOTE: When the ferry dock is full (like on Friday afternoons), cars lining up for the West Seattle (Fauntleroy) ferry will look like they're just parked along the side of the road... If you're approaching the ferry dock and see back to back cars over in the side shoulder waiting, then get in line behind them, or if you're approaching from the other direction, check to see if cars are waiting on the shoulder to pull in before you pull into the toll both area... you may have to keep driving and make u-turn to get at the ends of the line.
We're on a 13-acre farm with plenty of space for tents, camper vans or even your RVs or trailers. Just tell us if you're planning to stay on the property so we can prepare for you all! We've got: an outdoor kitchen, bathroom trailer with running water, flush toilets and electricity, outdoor heated showers, campfire pits (if there's not burn ban), and we're only a 5 minute walk into town to get groceries, eat at a restaurant or have a drink. We'll also set up some covered tent spaces with electricity for dry or shady hangout areas to get ready and relax in.
No, you can also stay in Seattle or Tacoma. Ferries run every hour from Tacoma, and a bit more frequently from Seattle. It's about a 20 min crossing. You'll probably need a car to get from your hotel or rental place to the ferry terminal and then from the terminal to our farm. You can also use public transport, we can help you look up the route and maneuver it all if you need help. Just reach out before booking somewhere! Note: Ferry traffic can be VERY long on Friday afternoons, especially from Seattle. Prepare to get there very early before the ferry you want to catch, or expect to potentially miss a ferry and wait for the next one. Tacoma's wait times can be less, but still plan to get there early if it's Friday afternoon!
Vashon has plenty of restaurants, as well as two grocery stores. Plus, we'll be feeding you dinner on Saturday night and have ongoing snacks for drop in visitors all weekend long (Friday afternoon through Sunday). Seriously, swing by the farm and we'll feed and water you.
