We will be hosting a fun day (or weekend!) at Addison Oaks County Park in Leonard, Michigan. Rather than being stuffed into a church or banquet hall, our hope is for everyone to be able to enjoy the day at the park with us! The park is well known locally for its mountain bike trails and disc golf course. There's also geocaching, hiking, paddling and fishing in the small lake. We will plan a group mountain bike ride on the trails early in the day, and have a short ceremony and reception in the afternoon. At the pavilion we will also have yard games (Bocce, Cornhole, etc.) for some fun while we mingle. More details with full itinerary will be provided in the near future, along with a digital invite to RSVP to! Do you want to camp with us? Hang out with us around the camp fire and share some stories and drinks! We will be camping the nights of Friday, September 16th, and Saturday September 17th. We have reserved a group campsite, Group Site 1A, suitable for 10 tents/campers (with electric, water nearby). Please RSVP with me specifically for the camping so we don't over promise any sites! Otherwise, we recommend you make your reservations directly with the park if you have specific needs such as a pull through site or being close to a bath house. https://www.oakgov.com/parks/parksandtrails/Addison-Oaks/Pages/default.aspx
As many of you know, this wasn't exactly the ideal wedding we had been dreaming of, but we wanted to do what we could to allow our friends and family to be a part of our big day. We live-streamed and recorded our civil ceremony from the Larvik Kommune on Friday September 17. Please copy & paste this link into your web browser... https://bit.ly/corius_wedding We will keep this website active going forward so we can continue to update everyone on future events! We hope that 2022 will allow us to celebrate with many of you in person!
We met in the winter of 2017/2018, thanks to an online virtual cycling platform called Zwift. We both started riding with the same group as well as interacting on their Facebook page. Our positive and encouraging attitudes made each of us stand out to the other. It was a breath of fresh air compared to what you usually encounter on social media! A few months later we began volunteering for the group and working together to organize group riding events on the Zwift Platform. One of these events was a 2-hour long group ride on Sundays. The day and time of the event made it popular for those of us in Europe and the Eastern US, especially during the cold winter months. In some ways, Zwift can be even more social than riding with a group in real life. Being able to talk together while riding allowed this Sunday group to get to know one another quite well. In 2019 one of our fellow endurance riders, Heléne, invited anyone to come join her in a massive cycling event, Vätternrundan, that takes place near where she lives, in Motala, Sweden. Without having met, Heléne opened her home to 3 strangers who had gotten to know one another online, through the Sunday Endurance rides. Upon meeting in person, it felt like the four of us had known one another for years! After getting to spend more time together in Sweden (and Marius showing me around Oslo and his town of Larvik), Marius and I had a long talk and we decided to see if we could make a long-distance relationship work.
After celebrating Christmas in Michigan in 2019, the plan was to see each other again in April, May, and August of 2020. Plane tickets were purchased, and the plan seemed solid. But then the pandemic ended up keeping us apart for the next 10 months. Cori was finally able to come to Norway on a "Declaration of Relationship" for the month of October 2020, and we spent the time riding, dining, and just being together. Building multiple pieces of Ikea furniture without a single argument was a good sign! Nearing the end of that month, while on our last ride together, I asked Cori to stop and step off her bike. I fell to one knee, presented a ring, and asked her if she would be mine forever. Gracefully she said YES! It might not have been the most romantic proposal in the history of proposals; roadside, farm fields, spandex and all, but in that moment, nothing else mattered.
No one is quite able to move anywhere just yet. We truly felt it was important to get married this summer while Cori was visiting so that we would finally have legal rights to one another. Throughout this pandemic, the only people who were allowed to travel "freely" were those with spouses or minor children in other countries. Getting the marriage certificate now ensures that we will not be held apart by government regulations and presidential proclamations. We will both be able to travel to be with one another. We have many adventures planned for the start of our married life, such as traveling to see more of our friends we’ve met through Zwift and The Herd, having Marius experience our annual mountain biking pilgrimage to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and Cori getting to attend the Norwegian Bluegrass Festival with Marius’s extended family, to name a few. We hope to see all our friends and family in-person again soon. Until then, we look forward to being together online. We will keep this website active going forward so we can continue to update everyone on future events!
