The original setting of this adventure was Rembrandt’s, 23rd and Aspen during the fall of '08. One Monday evening after volunteering at a clinic in West Philly, Corinne decided to stop in, with her friend and fellow volunteer, for a salad and glass of wine. Fortunately, it was Mark’s shift behind the bar. An instant sense of familiarity enabled the conversation to comfortably meander through a surprisingly varied landscape of topics. Over the next several months, Corinne’s visits to Rembrandt’s would become more frequent, sometimes with friends and family, but ultimately it would become more common for Corinne to come and visit Mark by herself. Although Mark enjoyed the company of all of Corinne’s friends, it was a special treat when she would arrive at Rembrandt’s unaccompanied. It was during the course of each of these many encounters, over several years, that the seeds of love were planted. Unbeknownst to either of them, the lush harvest that was to become their love, was just upon the horizon. The second setting of the adventure would take Corinne and Mark to Tiffin’s on 11th St. in South Philadelphia, on 8/19/17. This was the time and place where they would in essence meet “truly” for the second time. Corinne, living in Ithaca, NY at the time, was to visit Philly to attend a baby shower for her close friends. About a week before the shower, Corinne had reached out to Mark and asked if he would “like to meet for coffee or something to eat” ? Confident that this was an innocent get together between friends, but also realizing that coffee might not provide enough time to “catch-up”, Mark responded “sure, dinner would be very nice!” Over the course of a lovely three hour dinner and an enchanting walk along the Schuylkill River, it was apparent to both Corinne and Mark that something had changed. The powerful feelings they had for one another, the intense sense of kindred spirit, had transcended friendship! Corinne and Mark’s paths had come together that night.
