Explore the South Hills Trails

Explore the South Hills Trails

Helena, MT 59601

Hike or mountain bike on this amazing network of trails! Big Sky Cyclery in town rents out mountain bikes. Check out this interactive trail map to plan out your adventure:

Beach day at Canyon Ferry Reservoir

Beach day at Canyon Ferry Reservoir

MT

Lots of great dog friendly beaches! Bring a cooler, a chair and a floaty and you are set for a perfect afternoon. Our favorite beaches are Lewis and Clark Recreation Area and Crittenden Campground.

Float the Missouri River

Float the Missouri River

Mid Canon, Mid Canon, MT 59421

An easy river to float! Rent a kayak or raft from Capital City Sports or the Base Camp, or simply buy a cheap tube from a local grocery store. We recommend putting in at Mid-Canon and taking out at Mountain Palace for the perfect, scenic 3(ish) hour float. If you want to end your float with a beer and a burger, putting in at Wolf Creek Bridge and taking out in Craig is another good option.

The Historic Walking Mall

The Historic Walking Mall

N Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601

The walking mall has something for everyone. Breweries, coffee shops, boutiques, and more!

Drinks Downtown

Drinks Downtown

46 North Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601

We have spent many (MANY) wonderful evenings at The Hawthorn Wine Bar, Ten Mile Brewery, and Blackfoot River Brewing Company. Enjoy a glass of wine with a cheese board or local beer with a slice of pizza and take in all that downtown Helena has to offer. Cheers!

Gates of the Mountains Boat Tours

Gates of the Mountains Boat Tours

Helena, MT 59602

This is a Helena classic! The 120-minute boat cruise starts at the Gates of the Mountains Marina, just 3 miles off Interstate 15 in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains between Helena and Great Falls, Montana. Aboard a comfortable open-air boat (covered in case of rain), you’ll glide through magnificent country Meriwether Lewis would still recognize if he could return. Great towering walls of limestone still stand guard over the river. Bighorn sheep and Mountain Goats scamper in the rocks high above the water.
