Corey and Kourtney first met at church sometime in 2019. Both are pretty quiet, so after some time (and a pandemic) they started getting to know each other through various church events. Corey (finally) worked up the courage to ask Kourtney out in January, 2021.
A winter date in the middle of a pandemic proved challenging, but Kourtney proposed they go on a walk at Willow Metropark. She made the poor choice of wearing cute shoes, which didn't bode well for their five mile walk. Not wanting to go home, Corey and Kourtney proceeded to get take out, go to another park, swing by the store, get icecream, and drive around aimlessly until parting ways seemed the only option left. Although it might seem obvious that most first dates don't last 9 hours, Corey still thought "Kourtney just does this with all the boys".
Buckle up. On April 23, 2022, Corey spent the morning setting up the most elaborate scavenger hunt ever. From Kourtney's perspective, she was going to spend a relaxing morning at home while Corey "hung out with his mom" and then they would spend the afternoon at the park. So, it was only natural that when Corey showed up at her apartment, she was wearing a hat, no makeup, a long sleeve t shirt, leggings and tennis shoes... and to top it all off, her nails weren't done. Corey persuaded Kourtney to grab something out of the fridge for him, and she found the first clue. She knew pretty quickly where this scavenger hunt might be headed. The two chased clues all over downriver and Farmington, Clarkston and Detroit. A dozen or so locations that all held special memories for Corey and Kourtney. Around 8:00, a clue sent them to a new restaurant in Allen Park for dinner. At the end of the meal, something odd happened. Corey grabbed Kourtney's cell phone, said "I have to make a call", and walked outside. When he came back in, he said "I just talked to your dad. Your mom's been in a car accident and we need to go to Grass Lake" (where Kourtney's parents live). Considering all the other shenanigans of the day, Kourtney didn't believe this for a second, especially when the waiter brought another clue that would lead them to Grass Lake. It wasn't until they hit the road that she finally decided to believe that Corey was telling the truth. Spoiler alert, Kourtney's mom really was in a car accident, but she was ok. The couple arrived in Grass Lake at 10:30 at night, and hung around to make sure no one needed a ride home from the hospital and to hang out with Snake (the dog) while his humans were out. They finally got the go ahead to leave around 12:30 AM (now April 24th) and decided to finish the scavenger hunt strong at Willow Metropark (throwback to the first date)! The gates at the park were locked, as it was 1:30 AM by the time Corey and Kourtney reached the park. To top it all off, Kourtney took her contacts out at her parents house, so she couldn't see much. Corey found a path in the woods that connected to the metropark trail and led Kourtney to a spot decorated with tiny Christmas lights. It was here, at 2:00 in the morning, that Corey popped the question and Kourtney said YES!
