How It All Began

...not that long ago.

It all started with a mutual friend, the Dr. Christopher Collins. For a couple of years, he had been singing our praises to each other, "I really want y'all to meet. Karissa's amazing" or "Corey's a stud." We were both open to the idea, but we lived in different states and the opportunity wasn't there. Then came last Labor Day weekend, Corey decided to make a trip to Chattanooga under the appearance of visiting the Collins family (it really is always great to see them, though). In reality, he was on a mission — a date with Karissa. He cleverly initiated a date with multiple choice options. Little did he know, it was a perfect introduction because Karissa loves a choose-your-own-adventure opportunity. Besides, she told herself, if he's friends with Chris, he has to be great. They've been BFFs since high school. So, Karissa chose "option A", which was getting ice cream at Clumpie's and a walk and talk along the bridge (as seen above). Karissa got pistachio and Corey got plain 'ol sweet cream (per Karissa's memory) and was disappointed (Corey here, the company of Karissa was so sweet that it made the ice cream pale in comparison 😉). Conversations explored through topics like travel, tattoos, and future dreams. Just when Karissa thought the date had reached its conclusion, Corey smoothly suggested we venture into "option B" to end the night: drinks at Lo Main, Karissa's favorite dive bar (you know, the ones with the "Indian" chips! Much to Corey's confusion, they were simply Lays chips made in India.... you had to be there). Two more dates over two months followed, with a bit (less than Corey wanted) of texting. Karissa, guarding her heart, remained uncertain if we would be a good fit. During one of Corey's visits, he had job interviews lined up so that he could move to Chattanooga, a dream of his for years. Three weeks later, Corey made the move, and we met for coffee, strolling along the bridge once more on a peaceful Sunday morning. Karissa, still unsure, found herself enjoying their time together. She dubbed herself a "slow burn," determined to take things at her own pace and get to know Corey better. Turns out, a "slow burn" meant holding hands on their next time together and confessing "I love you" a short three weeks later. Oops, guess we are on fire now!
