We have made the difficult decision to postpone our wedding celebration until we can safely celebrate with those we love. We hope that you will be able to join us when we reschedule. We plan on exchanging our wedding vows on August 7, 2020 in a private ceremony surrounded only by our parents.
To say it took a while for Cassie to give me a chance….would be an understatement. She was in her second year of graduate school in November 2013 when we were introduced through mutual friends. Since I was in California and she was in New York, a first date was impossible. So, I shot my first shot through text. It went through like a free throw from Shaq. At the beginning she literally would not give me the time of day—in fact she was worried I’d turn out to be a creep. But I refused to give up! Finally, she started to come around to the idea that I wasn’t creepy and in fact…a pretty nice guy. We started as friends, talking on the phone…sometimes at 3 in the morning because of our time difference. We did that for seven months. And while most people thought we were crazy, we knew something special was happening between us. In the summer of 2014, I was going to my friend’s wedding in North Carolina and decided to stop in New York. We met at the Irish pub in Manhattan and it was instant. The connection we’d spent nearly a year building was magic. We spent the entire weekend together and when I left, I knew I wanted her to be my girlfriend. I returned a month later and asked her out. We embarked on a two-year journey of long distance. And just like our courtship-most people thought we were crazy. But we knew what we had was worth the challenges that distance provides. We visited each other as much as possible and in 2016 we moved together to Florida.
After living together for two years, I was ready to Pop the question. Cassie and I always visit California in the summer. She was looking forward to going on a hike while we were out there, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to ask her. I planned a mid-morning hike at Crystal Cove State Park, just North of Laguna Beach. We hiked for about 45 minutes…heading towards a ridge that overlooks the beach. I was nervous and anxious the entire time, I just wanted everything to be perfect. I’d told my cousin to wait at the ridge, so he could tape it. We came up on the ridge and I knew the moment was here. I had Cassie’s best friend pretend to take a picture of us. As Cassie turned to pose, I dropped down on one knee and asked her, “Will you marry me?” She screamed and cried and said YES! Then our friends and family came out of the bushes and hugged us. I’d also surprised her by flying in her mom and friends to celebrate with us after the proposal. It really did turn out to be a perfect day.
